Project description:

A complete security controls / communication system was installed in a new addition to the Baltimore County jail facility in Towson, MD. The system utilized eight (8) Allen-Bradley SLC-5/02 and SLC-5/03 PLC’s (with a combined total of over 2500 hard I/O points) on a DH-485 network for door, intercom and lighting control via custom graphic operator interface panels. The PLC’s were integrated via a serial interface to a Dukane MAX II intercom system CPU for call-in annunciation and station select at the graphic panel. The PLC’s were integrated via a serial interface to a Vicon V1300 CCTV CPU for camera selection by intercom or alarm point. The PLC’s were integrated via DH-485 interface to a Receptors security management system CPU for alarm reporting and door control via card readers.

C&E Design Services scope:

• Detailed configuration of the PLC racks, I/O assignments and network devices
• Detailed functional specifications for all PLC functions
• Coordination with Receptors on memory-mapping for their use in interfacing
• Ladder logic programming of all eight PLC’s on the network
• Adaptation of existing basic module program for serial interface of PLC to intercom CPU
• Adaptation of existing basic module program for serial interface of PLC to CCTV CPU
• Start-up and debugging in fabrication shop
• Start-up and debugging assistance at jobsite
