Project:    New Powerhouse De-ionized Water System

Client:    Merck & Company, Flint River Facility – Albany, GA

Project description:

Merck & Company is a worldwide manufacturer of pharmaceutical products, producing bulk product at the Albany, GA facility. The major equipment components of an existing De-Ionized Water system were replaced. New De-ionizing units, caustic and HCl day tanks, bulk storage tanks and other peripheral equipment were installed. The new system was controlled with Modicon Quantum PLC’s in a hot-standby configuration. It utilized a Wonderware operator interface system on Modbus Plus network.

C&E Design Services scope:

• Configuration and programming for Modicon Quantum Series PLC
• Network drop configuration and coordination with interface to existing equipment
• Configuration and programming of Wonderware Intouch MMI software
• Writing I/O checkout procedures and verification of I/O devices
• Writing alarm and interlock checkout procedures and verification of all alarm and interlock conditions
• Writing graphical interface checkout procedure and verification of all graphics
• Writing PLC program test plan and checkout of PLC program
• On-site startup, testing, and checkout of entire system relating to PLC and graphics interface programming
